limited to 250 copies !!! on august 4th 2011, the sony music warehouse in enfield, north london was attacked during riots and looting that affected many areas of the capitol over the course of a week. the warehouse burned down completely, taking with it millions of cds and vinyl stored by the distributor pias including the back catalogue of freerange. the blow was devastating for many labels, with the logistics of manufacture and minimal insurance payouts meaning that recreating the entirety of their old stock was completely impossible and many releases have been lost forever as a result.

michel amato aka the hacker is without a doubt one of the most successful and accomplished french djs and producers. since 1992 he is part of the international techno szene, widely acclaimed as a solo artist as well as persuing thriving projects with miss kittin. he is a rare gem ... an artists who always stayed true to his style and his early musical influences of bands such as cabaret voltaire, throbbing gristle, einstürzende neubauten, depeche mode or joy division. for his new satori ep on correspondant he makes no exception! originally hailing from mexico, daniel proclaimed disco caveman and rising comeme (matias aguayos label), transforms michels white funk into a psychedelic disco track. the remix unmistakably bears his signature: it is a maloso. offsets remix is a crawling monster. he digged deep and the result is a dark and hypnotic remix of white funk.

gerardo frisina goes back to the roots of the sound which has made him famous worldwide: the latin sound of classics like >descarga< or >the latin kick< (both previously released on schema). >moderno primitivo< is an ep about the encounter of the ancient afro-cuban tradition (the core of frisinas artistic dna) with a refined electronic taste. this component enriches drums and percussions and gives more edge to the whole production with details like pads and effects. in >moderno primitivo< the latin ensemble headed by frisina takes us into a jam session where percussions, piano and trombone play happily. the latin house mix is a club version where the rhythmic element and the groove take control of the mix. the melody is broken and a hammond plays over a ostinato bass. the flavour is definitely tribal. >cogele el ritmo< is a trip into frisinas latin world. slower than >moderno primitivo<, still has a solid hook to the dance-floor and is a triumph of joy and colour.

despite the post-industrial label often affixed to factory floor, there is a greater complexity of sound within the bands music that defies such facile descriptions. yes, there are rigid, fixed beats, and other sounds from the manufacturing plant, as suggested by the trios moniker. but there is also an underlying danceability that belies the seeming austerity of the sound, a hint at warmth that cuts through the permafrozen exterior. that curious balance has paid endless dividends thus far: they have been remixed by producer gavin russom, liars angus andrew and no ages dean allen, remixed and released by optimo, remixed and collaborated live with throbbing gristle legend chris carter, and remixed and produced (!) by joy division and new orders stephen morris. its been a whirlwind few years in terms of musical accolades, and factory floors dfa debut is a glimpse into why.
